Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Summary:

This is a more whimsical, hormonal and fun Harry Potter compared to the other books. Something like being in form 4, you know, the honeymoon year? It somewhat a great little soup to brew that will end up in the large finale of the franchise. Obviously romance is seriously in the air.

The Good:

The movie has real great special effects like the previous films, though it has not much action like the past ones to begin with, the movie holds up as its own as the calm before the storm, a more mellow story if you compare with the whirlwind of the Goblet of Fire and the Order of the Phoenix. It defintely sets the tone for Deathly Hallows 1 & 2

I love the director's vision, its exactly like mine for the movie, albeit, mine looked more like a budget cut version rather than the super imaginary special effects ones of the movie.

I absolutely love Helena Bonham Carter now. Her character, Bellatrix Lestrange definitely has a great nutty and psychotic impact in the movie. Although, her screen time maybe less than the principal cast, but she definitely shines in this one. Alan Rickman, as usual is great with Severus Snape

The Bad:

More Luna Lovegood, I barely see her throughout the movie. It sucks to tell you the truth. All in all, the romance, hormones and snogging is a little boring. I yawned through some parts.

For some reason, the movie seems to coast a little in some scenes which is why its so boring.

And there was nothing about the disappearances and if I am not misktaken, a heated argument between Mr Weasley and Percy is in order? I cannot fucking believe that that was not portrayed!

Overall:

Not a bad movie, defintely a nice one to catch, however, it only applies if you like Harry Potter or read the books and obviously have a fucking brain to think about it. As your uber flashy special effects are sort of lacking in this one.

Rating:

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince gets a 3 out of 5

Movie Review: Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen

Summary:

I get to see more of Megan Fox being absolutely sexy! I get to see Megan Fox looking oh so hot! Oh right, Sam goes to college. Something about the All Spark and the Revenge of the Fallen. Egypt, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megan Fox's breasts and explosions, explosions, explosions and... oh yeah! EXPLOSIONS! KA BOOM!!!!!!!!

The good:

MEGAN FOX!

Nice and flashy special effects

MEGAN FOX!

Sam's really embarrassing and loony mother that found cannabis.

and... um

MEGAN FOX!

The Bad:

Shallow storylines, soft core pornography and cheesy sex references and what do you get? A perverted teenage pubescent boy's dream movie that he can enjoy with his fellow friends and a very, very, VERY ANGRY Brendan Goh (emotionally) but happy (hormonally).

Fuck you, stupid transformers trailer for showing super cool and shiny images of explosions and cool fighting. Fuck you stupid hormones, making me watch some cheesy sex oriented action film.
'Oh its, MEGAN FOX!' You happy now, Brendan Goh's DICK? You happy wasting ten bucks, just make my eyes aimed at Megan Fox's curves. Actually I am quite happy, I slept very well last night (I will spare you the details since I am professional and reviewing a movie, not bragging how creative I am in bed, or fantasizing my creativity all over Megan Fox.)

Okay, enough about my favourite four letter word in the whole wide world that I prominently use in this blog, maybe I should put a content warning sign...

Micheal Bay seems to be lost in translation in this movie. I mean seriously, this guy's brain must have been switched from 'creative' to'sleazy' due to Megan Fox's sexual appealing-ness corroding it. It's as if Micheal Bay is incorporating soft core porn into the movie. Like the motorcycle scene.
Seriously, I can imagine it now.

'Okay, Megan! Get on the bike and paint it yeah. Camera one, give me a view of that nice bubbly ass of hers. Yes Megan, paint it, nicely, sensually. Show those red lips of yours that make up probably spends 2 bucks on. Yes, lift yourself higher a bit so that camera two can have a great view of the cleavage, higher, higher, higher, now straight. Lift your hair. Yeah, that's nice Megan, you are doing it perfectly.'

Also another reference to porn is of course, the stupid tiny robot, fucking Megan Fox's legs and the large balls of that robot thing that grind stuff. Enemy scrotum? YUCK!

Also, the story does not seem to shine out due to the less serious takes on it. (What movie is serious when you prominently show two large metal boulders as a robot's testicles?) Moreover, the cheesy sex lines also hamper it too. This is the end of the world and you are showing the balls of a freaking robot?

Josh Duhamel and Tyrese were pretty much invisible in this movie, and it sucks (for the girls, bisexual and gay men)

Also the two fighting cars that used to be a beat up ice cream truck. Yeah, what is up with them? They are so damn freaking annoying, it sickens me. Well, all I am sure is one is Latino and the other is Black.

As for Shia LaBeouf, he is okay. Just okay.

Also, there are a lot of mistakes for this movie. Moviemistakes.com list about 40 of them.

Overall:

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is a solid comercial movie, but the fact a number of stupid cheesy comedy just hampers the real reason of what this movie is about.

Movie Review: Angels and Demons

Starring:

Tom Hanks

Summary:

The pope has died and the four potential successors are kidnapped by the Illuminati and will be murdered one by one starting from 8 o clock. When the clock almost reaches midnight, the whole Vatican City will be destroyed along with a part of Rome by a nuclear bomb.

The Good:

You know those descriptive one liners? Well, Angels and Demons get the phrase 'Intricately Mind-Blowing'. A really well played whodunit that keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. The story is portrayed and played very well, much thanks to the part of Dan Brown. Tom Hanks as usual is great in this movie, a very talented actor indeed and I have to say this...

MAD PROPS TO JUDE LAW FOR SCAMMING THE SHIT OUT OF ME

His acting skills in this movie is truly remarkable. Okay, it helps because he plays the caramelango, caramelogo or caramelatte (okay, I was just craving Caffe Nero's Caramellatte). In honesty, he would have scammed me even if he was a former con. Story well portrayed and obviously I get it.

Plus, it also gives everyone a little history lesson on Rome. If you happen to be tested on Roman History, just watch Angels and Demons because most of the time, Tom Hanks walks around like a freaking human encylcopedia.

In a movie that is always mysterious and keeping viewers in suspense, there were a few comedic parts. Vandalism, lol. And no, you don't need to watch the Da Vinci Code in order to get what is going on in Angels and Demons. Two different stories with the same character.

Also, people with limited intelligence find it boring, which means us smart people can have fun watching it without the presence of idiots.

The Bad:

Children should not see this, some of the scenes were downright gruesome and ugly. Makes you cannot sleep.

The length of this movie is pretty long too, you get bored in some parts.

Overall:

Overall, Angels and Demons is a great movie. However, you should have some form of intelligence to watch it. Angels and Demons is not a movie that tries to make you understand, you have to understand the movie. You have to understand the power of the Catholic religion, the ancestry of Roman culture, how fucking smart these people are compared to idiots like George W Bush. The motives behind each character.

Rating: 4/5

Its a near perfect movie with some botches here and there but overall, its great

Movie Review: Push

Starring:
Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle and Djimon Honsou
Summary:
A group of psychics, granted various powers when they were born band together to take down a government agency that is using a dangerous drugs that enhances their abilities in hopes of creating an army of super soldiers.
The Good:
Dakota Fanning was absolutely great in this movie! I didn't know she had that much badass emo in her. Real cool. She really can portray someone that is tough on the outside but an actual softie on the inside. Also, her drunk? Absolutely hilarious! I love it. Her acting is so good that I actually feel worried for her in the movies.
The on location Asian setting is real nice, I love how the environments give a nice fresh look instead of the conventional setting of Sci Fi movies aka Manhattan? Gotham?. The special effects in this was amazing. I love the movers especially, because it really reminded me of my Charmed days. Memories, memories.
The Bad:
For some reason it feels like a clone of Heroes for Gods sakes, and I have to say. Moreover, it really is not that memorable. Sure you have all the superpowers and whatever, but none of the plots actually do stand out, other than the drunk Dakota Fanning. Its flashy, its super cool but unfortunately the plot does not pan out. It is a nice concept but the story telling just does not hit it well on being more memorable.
Then you have Chris Evan, who is cute and nice to look at but that is it. I sometimes feel that he just coasts through the movie, like a male model posing through the scenes. Its like having sex with one of those Abercrombie and Fitch guys. They are hot, they are cute, they are incredibly sexy but they do not make you scream in bed. Even if their dicks are like 10 inches long, and thick and juicy.
Plus, Push also receives great competition from Star Trek, Angels and Demons, Fast and Furious 4, Terminator, and the upcoming Transformers to stand out
Overall:
Overall, Push is just okay. I give mad props to Ms. Fanning for saving this movie into a horrible downward spiral of horrible plotlines. Guys would probably watch this, but since there were no car chases or Hiro Nakamura or anyone pulling off a Sylar. This movie is just short in the memorable and achievment area.
In short, I give Push, 2 out of 5. Nice concept but it really lacks a lot of things that will make it a successful standout in the summer blockbuster movies

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Starring: Isla Fisher, Hugh Dancy, Joan Cusack, John Goodman, Kristen Scott Thomas, Krysten Ritter, Leslie Bibb, Wendie Malick and Julie Hagerty

Summary:
Rebecca Bloomwood is a journalist who gets a job at a financial magazine and gives advice on how to save money, although she herself is heavily in debt.

The Good:

Isla Fisher is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for this role! I really really love her!!! She was amazingly funny. She manages to change a character who is a bitchy, hungry and vicious shopaholic to a very sweet, lovable and sympathetic girl. Mad props for John Goodman who plays her dad, Wendie Mallick who plays the new Shopaholic Anonymous group leader, Julie Hagerty who plays the secretary and the lady who played the former Shopaholic Anonymous group leader. I love Isla Fisher's Girl in the Green Scarf columns too.

All the funny moments were so spot on, the whole cinema was literally bursting with laughter, usually I would be very very pissed off but even Isla can take that annoyance of people spitting out popcorn behind you whenever she does something ridiculous.

The Bad:

I have to say, I am somewhat disappointed by this movie. For a movie concerning shopaholics, too much comedy is relied in part of Ms. Fisher and cast rather than go all Gucci, Fendi, Prada and actually spend money. Dwelling deep into the mind of a shopaholic. It is also sad to see it debut in the midst of the economic recession where people are trying to save but that does not give the creators an excuse to modify it into an ending that is more sympathetic towards those who are suffering. Its pathetic really. I prefer the movie to become something more like a whimsical ideology of shopaholic heaven (That is what the book is all about).

Being a fashion movie with LOADS and LOADS of clothes, they seem to pale in comparism with other movies like Sex and the City and Devil Wears Prada. Patricia Field! What were you thinking? I can understand the 95% acrylic and 5% cashmere horror but the Gucci Boots and Purple Gloves weren't a big with me either. The bridesmaid dress was eww and I cannot believed it was paired with some faux looking leapord print jacket! Mismatched much? But I love the green scarf.

Overall: I really really enjoyed this movie. The actors really saved the movie from a major fashion disaster. But I am really disappointed with the ending. Period.

Though I am highly critical of it but I recommend you guys to watch it. Guys and girls can enjoy the comedy and the acting. Also if you are my friend, you can take a look at my shopaholic berserk prime courtesy of Isla Fisher. Also guys, you can also check out why some guys and all girls go all gaga over Prada. Also I am highly grateful there is no Louie Vuitton. Girls in Malaysia travelled around in the ugly ripped off shit who cannot even pronounce the fucking name properly. Moreover, the bags are usually fakes from Shanghai, Hong Kong or whatever Chinese area where they probably enslave children to make the bags. So Louie Vuitton is pronounced Lou-ee Vitt-tond.

Oh crap! My rant has caused me to forget to rate it! Confessions of a Shopaholic gets 3 handbags out of 5

The Wrestler

Summary: Mickey Rourke plays Randy The Ram a washed out wrestler who tries to make a comeback in the wrestling business. He fell in love with a stripper and also worked as a shop assistant.

The Good: Mickey Rourke knows how to be washed-up (after all he used to be a wash up himself.) The depressing the drugs, definitely seem very surreal. Marisa Tomei seems fit to be a stripper and she was a great supporting actress, noticeable but not hogging all the limelight. The roles were cast perfectly, its like the Je Ne Sais Quoix of fate that rarely happens in movie industries. Kudos to the casting director. Evan Rachel Wood also played her role very well as a neglected, demented teenager. Great story as it depicts how washed up someone washed up can be

The Bad: Some camera angles were disappointing. What is worse is the portrayal of the wrestling industry. They wrestle in the club and take steroids for god's sake. It feels as if they do not earn enough. I wish it were to be more prominent like the WWE. Giving it a very dirty and horrible image on it. There were also a few boring parts.

Overall: 4/5. The Wrestler needs to thank the actors for their very believable portrayals. Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood had great chemistry with the characters and each other that makes the movie come alive. If it were not for them, it will be like some crappy indie movie.

Watchmen = Must Watch

Summary:

A former superhero was murdered and the world is on the verge of nuclear destruction. Experts say that the end of the world is very near. The cold war will be over and an all out war will breakout. To restore peace on earth? What do you have to do?

The Good:
Watchmen has a very impressive plot. Its twisted, its dark and obviously very anti-hero. It really keeps me at my feet. It makes you thought at first that there is a murderer after the superheros and it keeps you on edge all the time. The camera angles are superb as they really do make you feel that the attacker is going to strike at anytime. It really kept me on the edge a lot. But it then reveals there is a whole another different story that what it actually perceives, the motive of the murder is actually something very gruesome and it involves millions of lives. It will also leave you thinking, is it right or is it down right wrong? The actors played their part very well. Best actor definitely goes to Jackie Earle Haley who plays Rorschach in the film. An Oscar for this movie? Maybe not as the Oscar season has just ended but for MTV Movie Awards, then yes.

This movie is also great because it is not your traditional Superman comes and saves the day type by making the impossible, possible. Its about using the possible options available to save the world and stabilize the planet with making the fatalities as low as possible. It is also kick to the gonads for Singaporean movies who always try to make every movie a fucking moral lesson which is ridiculous. This is why I stay away from any movie that is Asian. For a serious tone in the movie there are some disturbing comical elements in it.

The Bad:
Can you stand sitting for 2 and a half hours where an overweight bastard sitting behind you and chews popcorn LOUDLY and makes you wonder if he spits some at the back of your hair. Thank God no farting, burping or sudden heart attacks happen. I pity the chair though, having to support such weight. Anyway, the length of the movie is really really long and the movie is a wee bit over the top and very overdone. Plus it does not really suit most people's taste. Hippies find it too violent, idiots find it confusing and boring and people with weird fetishes will have a hard-on and village idiots will be shocked by some girl-on-girl action. It really is for people who are deep into the comic.

Overall
3 out of five. Good movie, though not among the best. Watchmen is still a must watch basically it is just visibly different from other sci-fi/comic book movies. There is a little something for everyone in it. Idiots who think killing is ''funny'' and ''cool'', conspiracy theorists and anarchists, a good love story and loads of drama and action with a hint of comedy. Problem is the time is long and the movie is like steak on the brink of becoming burnt. And it really does not suit's other people's taste as political drama/ sci-fi are not really the ones bringing in the big bucks. But like I said, a must watch just cause it is different.

Brendan Goh goes OSCAR 1: Slumdog Millionaire

This is my first Pre-Oscar movie review I will only review for best picture and best director nominees (cause the movies nominated are the same) because a. I don't enough time to watch every nominated movie (Oscars are on 22nd February) b. I don't have much cash to spend on buying tickets to watch everything.
If anyone of you people have downloaded the following films, Frost/Nixon, Milk, Rachel Getting Married (not nominated but wanna watch), The Wrestler (same as Rachel Getting Married) please be kind enough to leave a message on the shoutbox. Will be truly grateful, might even get you something from LONDON!

Slumdog Millionaire is nominated for:
  1. Best Picture
  2. Best Director
  3. Best Adapted Screenplay
  4. Best Cinematography
  5. Best Film Editing
  6. Best Original Score
  7. Best Original Song (2 nominations in this category)
  8. Best Sound Editing
  9. Best Sound Mixing
All in all, there are 10 nominations

In short, a small summary can be described as so:

Jamal Malik is a street boy who lived in the slums of India. He has joined the show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire and is one question away to win 20 million rupees. The show made him and overnight superstar, an Indian Slum Miracle. However, he was suspected for cheating, therefore he was arrested and interrogated. The questions in the show revealed his past and every scene in it is a clue and answer to the question. Along side him is his brother, Salim and his lover, Latika.

Before you read on, I would like to warn you that some parts may contain hints of spoilers.

What did Slumdog Millionaire score on.

The direction of the movie is supreb, the scenes captured made me felt as if I was watching a book, unfolding all of its contents. Some scenes are flashy, some scenes are slow and hit pretty much all the perfect places. He depicted a sort of the true and harsh life of Indian slums. The movie also reminded me of Chinese gangster movies with the characters interaction with the gangsters. Also this movie sort of tells children, strangers maybe nice but they are only nice to you for their own profit. It also tells how unappreciated most slum children were. This movie is cruel, sick and mean in terms of how the story is going in general. But the cruel, sick and mean parts were actually the highlight of it, it makes you wanna pull an Angelina Jolie and adopt an Indian slum orphan. (Something that she actually haven't do... yet. I hope I get to do that when I get my celeb status.)

The story is definitely chilling and emotional at the same time. This is not your stupid action movie where everyone goes Sarah Palin and shoot people around and then camwhoring in the last scene. At least there are some gunfights that are simple, none of that missed suspense. It also depicts how harsh life is for some people, makes you sympathize for them and at the same time, glad that you are in your room getting a foot rub from an Asian illegal immigrant which acts as your personal foot rub and foot stool. It also shows you how greatful you are to not jump into a pile of poop, just to get Amitabh Bachan's autograph.

Its a story about love and action, only more emotional and stuff, really its heartbreaking. But not heartbreaking enough to drive me to tears. So far only Brokeback Mountain is the only Oscar animated movie that made me cry.

The story telling, the scenes are enticing and makes you feel real. Overall, a great movie to watch. 5 out of 5. I wish it the best of luck in the oscars.

Slumdog millionaire might carry away

  1. Best Director
  2. Best Picture
  3. Best Cinematography
  4. Best Film Editing
